Preparing your home for listing it on the market is essential to help it sell. But if you want potential buyers to feel invited to come in and check out the inside of your house, you have to make the outside look nice. This is called "curb appeal." Here are four suggestions for improving your home's curb appeal and increasing its chances of selling.
1. Plan your landscaping. If you want to make your home look nice, you can't just start planting flowers and bushes. You have to think about what you want to plant and choose plants that will complement each other. You should also install a system to water the plants for added convenience and a great selling point.
2. Use flower pots for some of your favorite flowers and plants. You don't have to leave all of your plants in the ground once you move, but you should have them there to increase the home's appeal when buyers are looking at it. If you plant some of your favorite flowers and shrubs in pots, simply pack them up and take them with you to your new home.
3. Think shade and privacy. Home buyers appreciate privacy in their homes and one attractive way to provide this is by planting shrubs and trees strategically in the yard. The trees will provide relief from the sunlight and the shrubs can be planted along the property's perimeter to give the yard a sense of privacy from the neighbors.
4. Take out the dead or sick trees. This is something you should start doing as soon as you decide to sell your home. However, you should plant other plants and trees in their place. If you tear out a large tree, plant another tree a few yards away and plant several shrubs around it to eat up the empty space left behind after pulling the fully grown tree out.
