First of all – be very cautious about clicking on the links provided in some of the answers – they are referral links which means they get paid for what you do. They are not really interested in answering your question or helping you out – they are interested only in making money off you.

Most people who work at home and are successful are doing one of two things – getting paid a commission on everyone they convince to join the program (also known as MLM or pyramid plans) OR they have their own business. Your own business is something you create yourself, not find on the internet. You create it based on your skills, your passions not on what someone else tells you is the GREATEST thing going.

I've asked this before and looked into many, and I can tell you most are scams. I recommend watching kids from home, you're there anyway, plus so many moms need daycare, I used to charge $100 a week per kid, think about it. Can you handle 4 kids plus your own? It's great income and gives your child kids to interact with. Plus you can pick and chose who you want to accept.

You need to send your resume out to real jobs you are qualified to do.

In your cover letter you need to state that you wish to work remotely, from your home office. LOTS of companies, especially in CA operate this way. They usually provide transportation for you to come in for an interview and for you to attend company meetings a few times a year, but otherwise everything is done online

ABC News had a piece on this last summer. She could do at-home telephone support with one of the companies named in the article, as well as with the Home Shopping Network (check its careers section). Staples also has about 200 at-homers, and I'm sure they have a massive waiting list, but who knows.

The National Telecommuting Institute is a non-profit that develops at-home work for people with disabilities as well. Their site is http://www.nticentral.org/apply/a6000.shtm (I've linked you to the FAQs)

Depending on her skill set, she might find freelance work on Guru.com or eLance.com. Much of the work is technical, but not all.

There are also lots of books on at-home businesses on Amazon and at the library, just to get some ideas flowing.

Hope that helps. Good luck to you both.
